Spoffin Spin-Off announces programme

 01-07-2025

Spoffin Spin-Off, the sequel to the popular Amersfoort street theatre festival Spoffin, announces the programme. On Saturday August 30th, thirteen groups from the Netherlands and abroad will descend on Amersfoort for the first edition of Spoffin Spin-Off. At seven locations in and around the historic city centre of Amersfoort, visitors can once again enjoy the best that street and location theatre has to offer, as we are used to from Spoffin.

A year ago, it seemed that Spoffin 2024 would be the very last edition. For a long time it wasn't sure whether the festival would have a sequel, but now it is certain: Spoffin Spin-Off is coming, and the program is ready! We have succeeded in preserving a street theater festival for Amersfoort. Admittedly with a modest program of one day instead of three, but full of exciting discoveries in the field of street theater, circus and dance.

Special acts
With thirteen productions, the program is not nearly as large and international as before, but artistic director Alfred Konijnenbelt is proud that Spoffin Spin-Off will continue. "We really turned every penny over ten times and the team worked very hard to make it happen," he says. “Fortunately, the motivation is high, and the artists still love coming to Amersfoort. We were able to book a few very special acts, including the exciting performance by Lapso Cirk (ES/SK) and a spectacular closing act by Firebirds & Flame Flowers (HU).”
"We also have a few names that have been on the wish list for years, such as a moving dance performance by Marta & Kim (NO/NL), slapstick by Barbara Probst (FR) and a special robot act by Daniel Simu (NL)," he continues. "As always, there are many family performances, including Achref Adhadhi and Wietske Vogels & Sanne Hamstra. Furthermore, for the first time Theater Flint is programming a performance in the Spoffin program with WIRWAR Productions. Circus Amersfoort is also present as usual."

Proud
Konijnenbelt is also proud that his team managed to get Spoffin Spin-Off off the ground, even though it took until the end of May before there was clarity about the financing. "Fortunately, the municipality of Amersfoort positively assessed the idea for a modest restart under the name Spoffin Spin-Off," he says. “Many other funds and partners were also prepared to continue supporting the festival on a smaller scale. And our volunteers were enthusiastic from the moment the idea was suggested!”
"Hopefully Spoffin will return in full force one day," Konijnenbelt concludes. “This is possible after 2028, when a new subsidy round from the municipality of Amersfoort is in the pipeline.” However, he will not experience that himself as artistic director: he will retire after this edition. Léonie Dijkema, already artistic director of the successful Fries StraatFestival in Leeuwarden, will take over from 2026.

Complete program
Spoffin Spin-Off brings many beautiful circus, dance, street and location theater to Amersfoort. The complete program can now be found on the website, TMSQR app and social media of the festival. Spoffin Spin-Off will take place this year on August 30 at various locations in and around the city center of Amersfoort.
